Overview
Nail making tooling is the set of wear parts a nail plant replaces after the wire is drawn: the gripper dies, cutters and punches on the nail making machine, the planetary thread rolling dies for ring-shank and screw-shank nails, the collating wheels for coil nails, and the diamond wheels used to regrind the cutters.
Every one of these parts is made to a machine model. Parts for one make do not fit another, even when they look the same. Relink.Tools supplies the full set and matches it from the machine model and the nail size, so you do not need the die dimensions. Find your machine in the list below and send us the model to start a quote.
One enquiry for the whole nail line
A nail plant usually draws its own nail wire before it forms the nails. We supply that end of the line as well: drawing dies and drawing powder for the nail wire, and carbide descaling rolls for the rod before drawing. Send the nail machine model together with the rod size and the finished wire size, and one quote covers the line from wire rod to collated nails.
For what each stage needs, see Nail making: tooling by stage.
The tooling, part by part
| Part | What it does | Supplied as | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gripper dies | Hold the wire while the head is formed | Brazed, for high-speed machines; or insert type, with replaceable carbide inserts — round dies take 4, 6 or 8 inserts | Gripper dies, cutters and punches |
| Cutters | Form the point and part the nail from the wire | Diamond, chisel, hatchet or blunt point | Gripper dies, cutters and punches |
| Header punches | Form the nail head | Plain or checkered head face | Gripper dies, cutters and punches |
| Planetary thread rolling dies | Roll the ring or screw pattern onto the shank | Rolling ring and fixed segment, in tool steel; ring pattern or screw pattern | Planetary dies |
| Collating wheels | Space and hold the nails while they are welded into coils | Made to order for one nail diameter range | See below |
| Diamond wheels | Regrind the cutters and dies | Electroplated, profiled to your cutters | Diamond wheels |
Collating wheels for coil nails
On a coil nail collating machine the nails drop into grooves around the collating wheel and are welded to two thin wires. The grooves decide the nail spacing and the weld angle, so the wheel is made for one nail diameter range. When the grooves wear, the spacing turns uneven and the welds move off centre. We make collating wheels to order: send the nail wire diameter, the weld position and the nail spacing, or a drawing or sample of the wheel you run.

Nail making machines — gripper dies, cutters, punches
Wafios N, S and DS series (including N80 and N90) · Kovopol THA · Tanisaka MTG · Vitari VR · Zeus · Moroni · Z94 · Chinese high-speed models X90, X130B and X150B
Enkotec rotary machines form the nail in a different way and use their own tooling. We supply it too; name the model and it is quoted separately.
Planetary thread rolling machines — ring and screw pattern dies
Prutton · Ingramatic · Omega · Enkotec · Zeus · Ruja · Wafios · Sakamura · Ticho · Salvi · Sima, and others to drawing or sample.
Coil nail collating machines — collating wheels
Made to drawing or to a sample wheel.
Two things to know before you order:
- Order by machine model, not by the part in your hand. Dies for two makes can look alike and measure almost the same and still not fit.
- Machine not listed? Send a drawing or a worn sample and we will confirm whether we can supply it.
The machine and brand names above identify compatibility only. Relink.Tools supplies tooling, not the machines.
FAQ
Which nail machines do you supply tooling for?
Nail making machines from Wafios, Kovopol, Tanisaka, Vitari, Zeus and Moroni, the Z94 type and the Chinese X-series; planetary thread rolling machines from Prutton, Ingramatic, Omega, Wafios and others; and coil nail collating machines to drawing. Enkotec tooling is quoted separately. The full list is above.
What do you need from me to quote nail tooling?
The machine model, the nail diameter and length, and for cutters and punches the point style and head face. For thread rolling dies, add ring or screw pattern; for collating wheels, the weld position and nail spacing. A photo of the worn part helps.
Can I order the drawing dies for my nail wire in the same enquiry?
Yes. Add the rod size, the finished wire size and the drawing machine model, and we quote the drawing dies and drawing powder together with the nail tooling.
Do you make collating wheels?
Yes, to order. Each wheel is made for one nail diameter range; send the nail wire diameter, weld position and nail spacing, or a drawing or sample of your wheel.
What is the lead time?
Usually about 15 days, confirmed by item and quantity when we quote.
